Imperial County State Prison is making positive changes by teaching the arts as a means of personal development, says the director of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CCR) in San Bernardino County. The program, called Arts in Corrections, was originally lured into the prison system by former inmates at the San Diego County Correctional Center in El Cajon, but the county board and the state attorney general's office worked to stop the program.

This is not intended as an actual scholarship, where good grades are mandatory, but as one or two art students who attend IVC to escape the high cost of art materials. Gaxiola remembers his first memories as an artist: "My mother stuck battle paper on the wall and it became my first canvas," he says. I was always the art man in high school, designing all the posters that the staff needed during my four years at Calexico High. We often had brides who used posters as guest books so people could sign because the paper is perfect and you can use it like normal paper.

Nic is a physiotherapist in Walnut Creek, CA and holds a degree in motion physiology from California State University, Chico. He then received his PhD in Physical Therapy from the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine and Health Sciences in San Marcos, California. She has since studied physical therapy at the California Institute of Technology in Los Angeles, California and completed her master's degree in motion science at Berkeley University.

She went to the University of California, Santa Cruz for her Bachelor of Arts in Bioeducation, where she spent her first years as a laboratory assistant in research and development. She decided to pursue further education and attended Mesa College in Mesa, Arizona, where she earned her Associates degree as a Physical Therapist Assistant in 2016. After moving to San Diego in October 2019, she began her career as an assistant physiotherapist at the California Institute of Technology in Los Angeles.
